The Cornish Man Engine

Yesterday I posted an image of The Cornish Man Engine, the large, mechanical puppet, that was created to celebrate the history of the centuries of mining in Cornwall and to commemorate the disaster at the Lelant Mine in 1919 when "The Man Engine", which raised and lowered the miners down the shaft failed, killing 31 and injuring many more.

I have put together some links to videos and still photos which gives a sense of how this project captured the imagination of people not only in the Tin and Copper mining areas of Cornwall and West Devon, but also in mining areas all over Britain.
