The Devonprt Column

Devonport Column was built in 1824 as part of the development of the town of Devonport.

Today it looks out over the most recent redevelopment of the Devonport district of of Plymouth. It survived the Blitz of the city during the Second World War, when it was served as fire watch post, but public access was restricted in 1950s and it was closed completely in the early 1990s.

But it was brought back to life by a grant from the National Lottery Fund and climbing its 137 steps (124 feet) to the viewing platform is gives a wonderful, 360 degree view over the city ,
