Irrigation

Whilst the record breaking temperatures and absence of rain
have played havoc with most gardens,

the automatic, drip feed feed irrigation system, at the entrance to the Duke of Cornwall Hotel, has kept these flowers in perfect condition.

The Duke of Cornwall Hotel

Opened in 1865 and still going strong.

During the heyday of the Transatlantic Liners, in the 1930s
the hotel welcomed a procession of famous stars of the era when they disembarked in Plymouth.
The list included Walt Disney, Charlie Chaplin, Duke Ellingtom and Bing Crosby.

The Old Grand Hotel

It is a lot like Hotel California.
You can check out any time you like,
But you can never leave!

At Long last.

The City Council has been able to purchase the derelict Quality Hotel on Plymouth Hoe.
If all goes smoothly, demolition of this eyesore could start within a few weeks,
and the search will be on for suitable purchasers to develop this prime Waterfront site.

A blot on the landscape

This hotel suddenly closed its doors in January 2014, when at breakfast,
guests were told to vacate their rooms by 11am,  and new arrivals  that afternoon
found the premises locked and empty when they turned up to check in.

Since then the vandals have run riot.
