from this secluded cove in North Cornwall.

A bird's eye view of the North Cornwall Coast.

Looking out over the beaches of Newquay. (about a hour's drive from Plymouth)
Most of the holidaymakers have left and local people have the area to themselves,
as you can see from the tiny figures walking on the beach.

A beautiful Autumn day.

This is Newquay on the North Cornwall coast, about 50 miles from Plymouth.
For many of us who live in Devon and Cornwall this is the best time of the year.
The vast majority of the visitors have left the area and we have the region to ourselves.
You can see just how uncrowded the beaches are at this time of year.

Unfortunately this spell of Indian Summer is not scheduled to last.
This picture was taken on Wednesday10th October,
but take a look at the forecast for today, Friday 12th October.

An island in the sun.

Whilst island living has many attractions there are also some drawbacks.
They are usually remote, involve difficult and expensive journeys to get to and from,
and once there, all the essentials of comfortable living, such as fresh water and  reliable power supplies involve very complicated installation and maintenance arrangements.

But you may have noticed, on the right hand side of yesterday's post,
that there is at least one island, in Newquay, which provides privacy with all mod cons.

A Bowling Green with a view.

This bowling green is in the holiday town of Newquay, on the north coast of Cornwall.
We are looking north, across the green and along the rugged Atlantic coast of Cornwall.

A resting place with a view.

Along the 630 mile length of the South West Coastal Path there must hundreds of  such seats,
but this one, at Constantine Beach on the North Cornwall coast, is a little unusual.

Carved out of this enormous tree trunk is a very comfortable 'settee'.

Like most of the seats along the path it bears a commemoration plaque

Timeless

There are still some family activities that don't require a high speed broadband connection.

Low tide at Constantine Beach

Monday, of this week, was a beautiful day to enjoy a stroll on the beach, at low tide.

By late afternoon the clouds rolled in and it has rained, almost non stop, ever since.

Thursday, 8 September 2016

The season is over.

The holidaymakers have gone home.
Constantine Beach, on the beautiful North Cornish coast, is left to the dog walkers and surfers..

Black Swans

These beautiful swans used to live on a small lake in the Trelawney Garden Centre,
just outside the charming town of Wadebridge, in North Cornwall.
But on my last visit I was sorry to find that they were no longer there. A great pity.

On Location (3)

"Doc Martin's Surgery"
It is probable that more people have posed in front of this house
than any other building in the whole of Cornwall.
The procession of visitors starts quite early in the morning and goes on well into the afternoon.

Other photo opportunities include
"Burt's Cafe", at the top of the steps, just above the beach,

Directly across the beach from the "Surgery" is another must for fans of the show - "The Village School"

On Location (2)

A couple more views of Port Issac, on the Atlantic coast of North Cornwall,
whose popularity has increased dramatically since it featured on TV
as the location for the popular TV series "Doc Martin".

On Location (1)

This is the attractive fishing village of Port Issac, on the rugged Atlantic coast of North Cornwall.
A whole new industry has grown up here since it featured as the fictional village of "Port Wenn",
in the massively popular TV series - Doc Martin.
On this gloomy, cold day the narrow streets were crowded as people posed in front of the many places that feature in the stories of the eccentric Dr Martin and the characters from the village.

This is the view from Doc Martin's surgery.

Houses with a sea view.

Last week, people living on the North Cornwall coast,
had a close up view of Atlantic Storm "Clodagh".

This is what it looked like from their windows.

Wednesday, 18 November 2015

Safely alongside in Padstow Harbour,

as the first major storm of the season, "Abigail",
moved in from the Atlantic.
