Padstow, at the mouth of the River Camel, is connected to the lovely market town of Wadebridge, 5 miles or so up river by the first section, of what is probably one of the most stunning cycling/walking/horse riding tracks in the country, The Camel Trail, which in all, is 18 miles long.
The main, pedestrianised, shopping street of Wadebridge has all the shops you would expect, including a traditional butcher, baker, boutiques and banks, together with pubs with good food, and, of course, authentic Cornish Pasties.
But I love browsing in these shops. In the ironmonger you can still buy nails and screws that don't come shrink wrapped in plastic.
I don't see stores like this in my area anymore. The big box stores have pushed them out.
