The oldest Ashkenazi synagogue in the English speaking world still in regular use.


The entrance to Plymouth's Orthodox Synagogue is in a narrow lane right in the centre of the city.




The Synagogue is the white building in the foreground.

It is in the same street as the city's Minster Church of St Andrew, the tower of which is seen here.












The congregation acquired a lease on this building in 1762 and bought the freehold in  1834.

The only major alteration to the building since it was built, was the extension of the ladies gallery in 1864.
