This meticulous restoration brings back vivid memories of the fleet of young
GPO Telegram Delivery Boys
who sped around every town and city.
In the days before instantaneous, digital communication person to person, when very few ordinary families had a private telephone, the Telegram was the fastest means for sending important messages.
The final leg of the message's journey - from the local GPO (General Post Office) receiving office, where the cable was transcribed, to the address of the recipient, was undertaken by dashing young men on these zippy little motorbikes.
Nice bit of local history.
