Captions and Context


Do captions, or their absence, affect the way we "read" photographs?
Can an isolated detail of a scene be fully understood without a wider view of the context?


This asylum seeker clutches his son and their worldly possessions after  being rescued,
 as they tried to cross the Channel in a leaky inflatable boat,


A father worries about  his child's future as the effects of global warning become clearer each year.


Father and son make their way back to the car after a great family day on a beach,
 on the shore of Plymouth Sound.
