A frosty February morning on the river.

The River Lynher flows in from the right to join the River Tamar  as it flows in from the right,
and flows past the Naval Dockyard on its way out into Plymouth Sound.

Early morning on the Tamar River

Friday's beautiful weather lasted for less than 24 hours .
Saturday dawned cold and grey but the wind soon got up, the rain started and went on all day.
A typical January day here in the Westcountry.

Another blustery day

The passenger ferry has just left Cremyll, on the Cornish bank of the River Tamar,
heading back to Admiral's Hard, in Stonehouse, on the Plymouth bank of the river.

The other vessel in the picture is one of the Police launches
which regularly patrol the local rivers  and Plymouth Sound.

Looking out to sea

We are looking out through the mouth of the River Tamar into Plymouth Sound,
through the narrows between Devil's Point, on the left, and Cremyll, on the right.
The little vessel heading towards Cremyll is the ferry which goes to and fro all the year.

A wider view from the Mount Wise lido.

The Lido at Mount Wise

This small lido is on the bank of the River Tamar, near where it enters Plymouth Sound.
It is not surprising that it there are so few swimmers this lunch time,
because our summer weather has deserted us, temporarily I hope.
The pools are not heated, so only these hardy regulars were taking the plunge.

Tales from the riverbank.

Looking back across the River Tamar towards Plymouth,
from the hamlet of Cremyll, on the Cornish bank.

This couple are enjoying our recent spell of beautiful weather
as they wait for the pub to open and start serving lunch.

Look Dad! I can see them swimming?

Whenever I see this lovely little sailing boat, Djibouti,  at Saltash, on the River Tamar,
I wonder if her owner is a veteran of  La Légion étrangère.

Politics and the Picnic Bench

Several picnic benches in a riverside park in Saltash, on the Cornish bank of the River Tamar,
have been painted in the colours of The European Union; much to the consternation of some who voted "leave" in the 2016 Referendum.

Recent heavy rainfall and very high tides

have brought a great deal of debris down the local rivers and streams, where it has ended up on the beaches and landing slipways in the estuaries of the Rivers Plym and Tamar.

Looking across the River Tamar.

We are on the shore at Mount Edgecumbe Park, on the Cornish bank,
close to the mouth of the river, where it flows into Plymouth Sound.
We are looking across the water to England from the ancient Celtic land of Kernow.
On right hand side of the image lies Drake's Island, in Plymouth Sound.

On the extreme left of the images above and below,
you see the short pier from which the ferry service linking Cornwall to the Plymouth runs.
This ferry crosses from Cremyll to the Stonehouse district of Plymouth.

The early morning commute

for workers coming across the River Tamar from Cremyll  into Plymouth ,
on a cold and blustery day.
