This ferry crosses the the River Tamar from Cremyll, on the Cornish bank, to Admiral's hard,
on the Plymouth bank, and is a very popular part of a visit to the magnificent
Mount Edgecumbe Country Park.

Historic Coastal Defences

At intervals along the entire shoreline of Plymouth Sound, there are remnants
of the gun emplacements, from which any enemy ships could be caught in the cross fire.

This one at Mount Edgcumbe, together with the battery on Drake's Island,
prevent entry, by enemy ships  to the River Tamar,
the home of the Royal Navy for hundreds of years.

Timeless

The sight of a vessel sailing along the shore of Mount Edgecumbe Park,
on the Cornish shore of Plymouth Sound, would have been commonplace for hundreds of years.
Today, a vessel like this, under sail, attracts attention.

Solitude

The 865 acres of the Mount Edgecumbe Country Park
run along the right hand (theCornish) shore of Plymouth Sound.
It provides free access for the public 365 days a year.
At any season of the year it provides a fabulous escape and a chance to unwind.

Abstractionem Geological

Yesterday's post took a brief look at the Italian Garden in the Mt. Edgecumbe Country Park.
Like most "Italian Gardens" it uses pieces of marble to enhance the hard landscape.
I took the liberty of creating these two Abstract Triptychs based on marble pieces in the garden.

Springtime in the Italian Garden.

This is just one of the areas within the massive Mount Edgecumbe Country Park,
a short, 10 minute ferry ride, across the River Tamar from the city.

This garden houses the original Orangery, now a light and airy coffee shop and restaurant.

which is popular all the year round.

Cruising down the river on a Sunday afternoon.

Or in this case, cruising up the River Tamar.
Passing the village of Cremyll and the entrance to Mt. Edgecombe Country Park, opposite Plymouth,
in beautiful calm weather last Sunday afternoon.

The First Ferry on Sunday Morning

The passenger ferry from Cremyll to Stonehouse, crosses the Tamar just before it enters Plymouth Sound, linking  Mt Edgecumbe Park and the beautiful Rame Peninsula to the city.

Or, as some would have it, linking England to the Celtic country of Kernow.

Mount Edgecombe Country Park

Mount Edgecombe Country Park covers 865 acres of wonderful parkland, formal gardens and multi use trails on the Rame peninsula in South East Cornwall.

It is an inspirational place in every season of the year, with great views across Plymouth Sound to the city and beyond, towards the high ground of Dartmoor. Two days ago I strolled through the lower reaches of the Park, at Cremyll, enjoying the beautiful warm, spring day.

Looking back up the River Tamar towards the Tamar Bridges, with the Naval Dockyard lining the Plymouth bank.

Cremyll

Yesterday I took the ferry, from Stonehouse to Cremyll, across the Tamar to visit the daffodil fields. The service keeps to a strict year round timetable, as it is an important commuter link. The weather was superb.

The first child was already busy on the beach, early visitors were entering the 865 acres Mt. Edgecumbe Country Park, the first customers were enjoying coffee by the river, outside the the Edgecumbe Arms and the water sparkled as they looked back to Plymouth.
