A Tale of Two Seasons

Mid Summer Fun

and Mid Winter Gloom

The pool has been battered by a succession winter Atlantic storms
which have roared up the Channel and pounded the coasts of  Cornwall and Devon.
Hence the debris in the pool.

Bright and Breezy

After a long period of rainy days
sunshine on Christmas Day was a welcome present.

Home in time for Christmas

This is the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Vessel Tidespring crossing Plymouth Sound,
to enter the River Tamar on her way to her berth in the Devonport Naval Base.

To take a closer look at Tidespring and see what her role is in the Royal Navy

The calm before the storm

I took this photo on Saturday afternoon looking from Plymouth Hoe on to Plymouth Sound.
All is quite calm but it is clear that a storm is brewing.

The next Atlantic Storm, (named Atiyah by the Irish Meteorological Service),
hit our shores during the night and is forecast to batter us all day today and through the night into Monday morning.

Winter View

Even on a day like this, it is unusual for Plymouth Sound to be so empty.

The helicopter was the last arrival before the ship's departure.

The weather was foul but Plymouth Sound was busy on Friday morning,
as this Royal Navy ship prepared to sail.

Thursday, 3 October 2019

Yesterday it stopped raining and the sun shone.

But today, in many areas of the Westcountry,
people are preparing for high winds, high tides and more heavy rain
as the ex hurricane Lorenzo hits the Atlantic shores of the UK,
on Thursday and sweeps across the country.

The arrival of the ferry at Cawsand

It looks as though the summer is definitely over, here in the West Country.
It could be a long wait for a warm, sunny, flat calm day for our next trip
across Plymouth Sound, from Plymouth to Cawsand on the Cornish shore.

Calm, warm and sunny - a perfect start to Autumn.

Looking out onto Plymouth Sound, from the waterfront,
towards Drake's Island and the Mount Edgecumbe Country Park beyond.
