Mid Summer Fun 

and Mid Winter Gloom

The pool has been battered by a succession winter Atlantic storms 

which have roared up the Channel and pounded the coasts of  Cornwall and Devon.

Hence the debris in the pool.

You would think they had never seen skinny dipping before

The Summer Season starts today.

When the Tinside Lido, on the city waterfront, opens for the summer.

Spring Cleaning complete

The Tinside Lido is cleaned up and ready for business.

It is scheduled to open shortly, but the beautiful weather of the Easter Holiday

has been replaced by a return to Winter rain, wind and cold.

Spring Cleaning

Preparing the Tinside Lido for the Summer Season.

The security conscious ice cream vendor .

This little ice cream kiosk is located on the Waterfront above the Tinside Lido,

and every morning and evening the operator goes through  the Ceremony of the Keys.

The people queueing to get into the Lido are checking for a space to head for when they get in.

may not be shared by his wife.

The Ladies of the Lido

Cooling off at The Tinside Lido, on the Waterfront of Plymouth Sound.

With seven days to go to the opening,

the temperature will have to rise considerably 

to attract many bathers.

 

Spring Cleaning at The Tinside Lido

A sure sign that Spring is in the air and Summer can't be too far away

and The Lido, on the shore of Plymouth Sound, will be no longer deserted.

and these ladies can take to the water again.

Beach Huts on the Foreshore of Plymouth Hoe

 

Early morning on a sunny August day and the 'residents' are arriving for another day of sun bathing, sea bathing and convivial company.

In 1988 these huts had become so dilapidated that the City Council, who owned them, decided they should be demolished, but a local couple, with fond childhood memories of summers spent here, acquired them and set about restoring them to their former glory.
