Tales from the riverbank.

Looking back across the River Tamar towards Plymouth,
from the hamlet of Cremyll, on the Cornish bank.

This couple are enjoying our recent spell of beautiful weather
as they wait for the pub to open and start serving lunch.

A tiny cog in a very large machine.

In the UK the night-time economy is worth £66bn, according to the
Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), and employs 1.3 million people in hospitality and entertainment, including pubs, restaurants and music venues,
and leisure and retail, including late-night shops, fast-food establishments,
gyms and beauty salons.

This is part of Plymouth's contribution to those statistics.

A sign of the times.

The dramatic rise in the popularity of Cider continues apace.

I spotted this pub sign recently.

The image of "SCRUMPY" as Cider was traditionally known in this part of the world, has moved upmarket.
 It is now very "Trendy".

Not that many years ago, few, if any, pubs would have proclaimed
that they were a "SCRUMPY HOUSE"

Same Windows, different views

As the seasons change,  different worlds fill the frame.

Inside the Hyde Park Hotel, Mutlet Plain, Plymouth.

Yesterday we looked at the exterior,

Two shots from the same spot.

Looking through the window of the Waterfront Bar and Restaurant, onto Plymouth Sound.
In fact both taken at about the same time of day; noon.

Summer has been on hold for the last couple of weeks, and the thunderstorms of the last few days have caused havoc in some places in our region, like Coverack, down the coast from us in Cornwall

Dancing in the New Year

These local Morris Dancers welcomed in the New Year
with a lively performance in the street outside the Dolphin,
one of the well loved pubs on the Barbican.

Only these hardy smokers watched at close quarters, from the pub door ,
but across the street a large, appreciative crowd gathered, ignoring the rain.

The view from my favourite window.

This is the scene from a window in the Waterfront Bar/Restaurant,
which looks out on to Plymouth Sound.
After  "Storm Angus", which was followed by several days of wind and rain,
it is great to see bright, calm weather return.
