Getting ready for the anniversary party.

The anniversary in question is the 400th Anniversary of the departure from Plymouth of the ship  Mayflower with 102 colonists on board, 35 of whom were  were radical Puritans seeking religious freedom, in the New World.

At a commemorative bicentennial celebration in 1820, the orator Daniel Webster used the phrase Pilgrim Fathers, and the term became common usage thereafter.

Work is under way on maintenance of the Memorial at The Mayflower Steps,

 the spot from which they boarded the Mayflower for their epic voyage.  

There is a whole year's worth of events scheduled in the city to mark the 400th Anniversary in 2020

on a quayside near The Mayflower Memorial, in the historic Barbican Quarter.

 commemorates the sailing, in 1620,  of the Pilgrim Fathers

 to America.

The point of departure and the roll call

Plans are already being discussed about how the city should celebrate

the 400th year anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower, 

carrying the "Pilgrims"  from Plymouth to America in 1620.

The steps, beside the Mayflower Monument, in the foreground, are generally accepted

 as the spot from which they embarked on the Mayflower.

The this passenger and crew list  records the names of all those who boarded the Mayflower in 1620.

It can be found near in the Elizabethan Garden, New Street, very near to the Mayflower Steps.

Snoozing near the Mayflower Memorial.

Tucked out of the breeze the sun was quite warm on the steps beside the Mayflower Memorial.

It was from this spot, in 1620, that the Pilgrim Fathers set out for their new life in America.
