Tectona

Built in Southern India in 1929, for a Major in the Indian Medical Corps, on completion,
Tectona was shipped back to the UK as deck cargo and her long and varied life began.

She is now in the hands of The Tectona Trust, whose objective is
to bring the benefits of Adventure Sailing to people with mental health or rehab problems.
Based on research evidence and personal experience, this is something that really can make a difference.

Shtandart, The Russian Frigate Replica.

The weather has been very kind, with bright sunny days and virtually no rain, so The Shtandart has drawn a large number of interested visitors during her stay.

The detailing throughout the vessel
is exceptional.

Relations between the Western Powers and Russia

are close to breaking point in many flash points around the world.
But here in Plymouth a beautiful Russian Visitor has been the centre of attention on the Barbican,
for the last ten days or so.

The Frigate Shtandart ,built in 1999, is an exact replica of
the man o war  built by Peter thee Great in 1703 to defend St Petersburg.

A Dark Spanish Beauty.

This is the Nao Victoria, an exact replica of the first ship to ever sail right around the world.

The original Spanish carrack was one of five vessels in Magellan's 1519 expedition seeking a new westbound route to the "Spice Islands", now Indonesia.

Three years later (1522) the Victoria was the only ship to return to Spain, its surviving eighteen man crew were unaware that they had completed the first ever round the world voyage.

Looking both ways in Sutton Harbour.

Strolling along the quayside the other day I noticed that a cafe / bar across the water
had emerged from the shrouds on completion of its Winter makeover.

It is now renamed "The Stable", and its new specialities are to be ,
Pizzas, Pies, and Cider. Sounds good to me.

An hour or so later, having walked right around Sutton Harbour and stopped in the Fish Market,
I ended up sat on the terrace of The Stable looking back across to where I had started.

Sometimes the view is enhanced by the presence of a beautiful visitor.
