Early morning on the Tamar River

Friday's beautiful weather lasted for less than 24 hours .
Saturday dawned cold and grey but the wind soon got up, the rain started and went on all day.
A typical January day here in the Westcountry.

Puddles

Yesterday, large areas in the North of England, had well over a month's worth of rain
in under 24 hours,.which has left large areas some cities under several feet of flood water.

Down here, in the extreme South West, we were very lucky, we have only been left with puddles.

Another Rainy Day

It is said that Inuit people have around fifty words to describe different types of snow.
Here in the West Country we have almost as many words for types of rain.

Yesterday the heavens opened

as our latest Atlantic storm, "Deirdrie" arrived.

It made me wish I would be spending Christmas "Down Under",
on the Beach at Surfers' Paradise.Queensland.

Another rainy day.

Even in the gaps between the heavy showers,
the wind whistled through the narrow streets and alleyways
of the historic Barbican quarter of the city.

There were more staff than customers in most of the businesses
that afternoon.

This lady was waiting to offer passers-by a sample of the shop's wares, but unfortunately there weren't any.

Sunday, 27 May 2018

Normal service has been resumed.

After nearly a fortnight of sunny, warm, dry weather  the heavens opened yesterday afternoon,
and a thunderstorm raged for most of the night.

Compare and Contrast

What a difference a day makes.
This shot was taken 24 hours after yesterday's post,
from a spot about 50 metres along the Waterfront from that location.

It was very wet, very windy and very cold.
I stayed inside the car.

A Sudden Squall

Viewed from inside the warm, welcoming Berkeley Bar at lunchtime on Friday.

The rain continues.

December's unseasonably high temperatures continue to break all time records.
but it has rained for at least part of every  day.

The only points of light in the garden were these raindrops.

While these berries add a small splash of colour in this saturated corner.
