Leaning into the wind

Although it looks placid there were some ferocious gusts,
from the tail end of the first of the Atlantic storms to reach us this Autumn.

RESPECT THE WATER

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI)
Their lifeboat crews and teams of beach lifeguards play a crucial role
in keeping the seas and beaches around our coast safe.

This large glass cube is one of their latest ways to try to get their message across to the public.

This one has been located close to Devil's Point, at the mouth of the River Tamar,
where it enters Plymouth Sound.

Here, where the river narrows, the flow of the tides meet flow of the river, producing very treacherous conditions.

Check out their message on other two faces of the water cube. Let's hope it works.

Bad Hair day

It is said that there is no such thing as bad weather, only inadequate clothing.

This lady. in her Drover's coat and hat, seems ready for anything as she leads her dogs up to the high ground at Devil's Point, from  The Royal William Yard.

But there was one item missing.
A Chinstrap on her Drover's hat.

Air Temperature 8.3°C. Sea Temperature 11.7°C.

After a very damp start, yesterday turned out to be a lovely sunny, winter day.
But this brave soul didn't have any companions for his mid morning dip
at the aptly named Devil's Point, in Stonehouse .

It was, however, the perfect morning for a long walk along Plymouth waterfront.
The intrepid swimmer entered the sea from the beach near the left hand edge of the photo below.

Sunset at Devil's Point

Devil's Point lies close to the mouth of the River Tamar,
where it narrows before flowing into Plymouth Sound.

We are looking back up the river before it bends to the right,
and carries on up towards the Devonport Naval Dockyard.

Fishing at Devil's Point.

This fisherman is enjoying one of our very rare days when the sun shone.
He feels a tug. He strikes. He definitely has something hooked.

He can tell it is very big but he skilfully brings it into the shore.

However, when he sees what he has hooked, he has no choice but to throw this one back.

Looking out to Drake's Island .

The early Spring weather has been just about perfect for the last week or so,
quite warm, with crystal clear skies by both day and night.

This family are stood on the corner of the children's seawater bathing pool at Devil's Point, Stonehouse.

It is a great place to watch the naval ships pass by, really close up.
